A documentary film titled, “ Into the Arms of Strangers: Stories of the Kindertransport” is scheduled for this evening from 7 to 7:45 p.m. at the Hawthorne Library, 2707 East Washington.On November 9, 1938, Hitler’s war against the Jews began with the “Kristallnacht,” when Nazi troops and angry mobs attacked synagogues, Jewish-owned businesses and neighborhoods. Few nations accepted German Jews who hoped to expatriate. Great Britain agreed to permit Jewish children between the ages of 5 and 17 to come to the U.K. — without their parents. Between December 1938 and August 1939, 10,000 children gained refuge. Judi Dench narrates. Call 608-246-4548 for information.
