Radio talk show host John “Sly” Sylvester will be speaking on “celebrating progressive values” at the Rock County Progressives Potluck Picnic this evening at Janesville’s North Riverside Park, North Pavilion, 2200 Parkside Drive. The public is cordially invited to attend the event which kicks-off at 6 p.m.,with speaker Sly scheduled at 7 p.m. Music by Aaron Aegerter. The Wisconsin Books to Prisoners support group meets tonight from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Rainbow Bookstore, 426 West Gilman. Join others interested in getting quality reading material and educational opportunities to those behind bars. Donations of new softcover books are most welcome. For many members of our community, a major barrier to employment is a lack of appropriate attire for work. Literacy Network hosts a Dressed for Success “store” featuring lightly used or new business clothing and work apparel donated by our community. Adults who meet program requirements shop for free work-appropriate clothing. You can help by donating men’s and women’s business casual clothing, and clothing for labor and construction jobs. Donations are accepted 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday at 1118 South Park Street. For information, call 608-244-3911.
