The public is invited to a free talk on “The Street Fighting Year: The Importance of 1968, Fifty Years On”, by Tariq Ali tonight at 7 p.m. in the Elvejhem Building on the UW campus at 800 University Avenue. Tariq Ali is a writer, journalist, filmmaker, and editor of the New Left Review. Co-sponsored by the Center for the Humanities, the UW History Department, and the Havens Center. The Madison Senior Center has teamed up with the Rape Crisis Center to offer a free workshop for women about protecting themselves in a variety of situations, tomorrow, Tuesday, April 3rd from 10 to noon at the Senior Center, 330 West Mifflin Street. This workshop will bring creativity and awareness to the idea of self-defense in later life. Participants will leave with a more in-depth understanding of how violence unfolds, as well as physical and verbal tools to enhance safety. Please call 266-6581 today to pre-register.

Remember to vote in the spring elections tomorrow, Tuesday, April 3rd. Polling places are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. If you’ve moved since you last voted, you’ll need to complete a new voter registration application. You may register to vote at your polling place on Election Day.You’ll need to prove your address with a government document, Wisconsin driver license/ID, utility bill, bank statement, residential lease or paycheck showing your name and address. For information, phone the City Clerk’s Office at 266-4601.
